Vehicle Coverage

An OBD2 scan tool, the LAUNCH CRP429 is compatible with most mainstream vehicle brands. More specifically, it works on most 1996 and newer US-made vehicles, 2000 and newer European-made vehicles, and 2003 and newer Asian-made vehicles.

Coverage includes both gas and diesel-powered cars and light trucks. The only condition is that the car should not be more than 12V. Equally important is the fact that the scanner has auto-VIN that automatically identifies a vehicle.

Full-System Scan
At its most basic functionality, the LAUNCH CRP429 supports reading and clearing of trouble codes. You can pull generic as well as manufacturer-specific codes. Coverage is for ALL systems, including engine, ABS, SRS, transmission, fuel system, emission system, light system etc.

In other words the scanner not only helps you reset the Check Engine Light but also other warning lights. Besides, it provides live sensor data from all the systems (engine, chassis, powertrain etc.)

You can view the data either as text, analog, digital or waveform graphs. The graphs are particularly important because you can merge and compare the information for easy analysis.

Reset Functions
In addition to reading and erasing codes, the LAUNCH CRP429 offers several reset functions. For starters, by clearing OBD2 codes it allows you to reset engine, ABS, SRS, transmission, fuel and emission systems to name a few.

Besides the above, the scanner supports resetting of oil service, EPB, SAS and BMS. Oil service reset is usually necessary mostly after changing oil or maintaining the oil system.

EPB (Electronic Parking Brake), on its part, needs resetting after repairs in the EPB system or if a brake pad has been replaced. The same goes for BMS (Battery Maintenance System) and SAS (Steering Angle Sensor).

Special Functions
The LAUNCH CRP429 also supports DPF regeneration, SAS calibration and ABS bidirectional tests. DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) regeneration basically involves emptying the filter that captures and stores exhaust soot to minimize pollution.

SAS calibration refers to adjusting the steering angle. On their part, ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) bidirectional tests make it possible to command the ABS to perform actions remotely (using a scan tool).

Coding and Programming
Finally, the LAUNCH CRP429 can perform injector coding, IMMO and battery re-matching. Injector coding is the process of writing a new code to a car’s ECU after replacing an injector component. That leads to accurate communication and proper injection control.

IMMO makes it possible to clear the information held in a lost car key. By doing so it protects your car against theft. The only unfortunate part is that the LAUNCH CRP429 cannot program new keys. On the upside, it does support resetting and registration of a new battery
